Onto® Process

Onto® species can be designed for surface modification or for cross-linking.

For surface modification an Onto® species is used that has a 'Reactive Head' attached to a 'Functional Tail'. When the Onto® species is applied and cured to a surface this provides a new application-specific functionality inferred by the functional tail.

Onto® Process

For cross-linking applications a range of Onto® cross-linking species have been developed that contain more than one reactive head per molecule. An Onto® cross-linking species is shown schematically below.

Under everyday conditions an Onto® species (surface modification or cross-linking) is unreactive. However, when exposed to Heat, UV or other suitable energy forms, the head group is activated and can bind with almost anything.

The reactivity and control of Onto® species provides for versatile and effective surface modification or cross-linking. We leverage the technology on its own or in combination with polymers, particles and fibres.
