Our chemistry-led solutions solve surface treatment problems

Our wet chemistry products control wetting properties (hydrophobic and hydrophilic coatings) and adhesion properties (adhesion promotion and bonding treatments).

KOTEFAST™

Removing sanding from the painting process

Our wet chemical surface treatment prior to painting, lacquering or coating is called KOTEFAST™. It can be sprayed or rolled onto a surface and is activated by curing, either in a convection oven or by infra-red. KOTEFAST™ is qualified with large multinational commercial vehicle OEMs.

Treated with KOTEFAST™

KOTEFAST is an alternative to mechanical abrasion.

KOTEFAST is sprayed then cured. The paint stack is applied.

KOTEFAST process reduced surface preparation time by up to 90% compared to sanding.

Standard Surface Preparation

Traditionally surface preparation of composites prior to painting requires sanding.

Complex shapes with ridges and corners are difficult to sand optimally and consistently.

Mechanical abrasion is 10x slower than KOTEFAST

SEMPRABOND™

Improving adhesion of composites

Surface preparation is crucial in creating strong bonding and adhesion between materials. The broad reactivity profile of our SEMPRABOND™ chemical surface treatments allow adhesion improvement on a wide range of composite and engineering plastics.

Application of force

Our ONTO™ bonding products provide adhesion promotion for a variety of different substrates

ONTO™ provides superior adhesion without the need for sanding.

ONTO™ enables materials to bond better together - causing cohesive failure through the substrate.

Standard Adhesive

Application of force

Typically, many substrates need to be surface treated prior to being adhered.

Otherwise as force is applied across the substrates, the samples come apart.

Adhesive failure has caused both substrates to come apart.

Applications in bonding include

Resources
  • Improved interfacial adhesion between fibres, fabrics, and matrix resins.

  • Improved bonding of composite and engineering plastics, especially in mixed material joints and assemblies.

  • Improved adhesion of pre-preg or tow-preg to substrates in wrapped, wound, or laminated structures.

  • Improved interfacial bonding in laminated structures.

  • Improved adhesion of paints, coatings, and lacquers to composites and plastics.

  • Ability to select adhesives based on properties rather than on their adhesion to particular materials.

WettingProperties

Alter and control the way liquids interact

The ability to control wetting properties is of critical importance in many applications. Using ONTO™ it is possible to alter and control the way liquids interact with material surfaces.

ONTO™ can be patterned onto surfaces, either by selective curing or printing, allowing the creation of surfaces with bespoke functionality.

Applications in wetting properties include

  • Altering wetting properties of membrane and fabric materials.

  • Controlling the behaviour and wetting properties in devices.

  • Controlling the behaviour and deposition properties of inks or coatings.
